DEMONSTRATING ITS COMMITMENT TO PUBLIC SAFETY,

ELSAG NORTH AMERICA PRESENTS HIGHWAY SAFETY AWARDS

AT IACP CONFERENCE

President and CEO Mark Windover Recognizes Officers

Who Go Above and Beyond the Call of Duty

Brewster, NY, December 11, 2008„Ÿ ELSAG North America Law Enforcement Systems (www.ELSAGNA.com) participated last month as a partner in the Highway Safety Awards at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference and Exposition in San Diego, California.  This annual event has been a model public/private partnership encouraging local and national efforts to promote highway safety.  ELSAG President and CEO, Mark Windover, presented the awards for Individual Recognition for the annual Vehicle Theft Awards of Merit to Senior Trooper Timothy D. Coles of the Iowa State Patrol and Police Agent Martin Bolger of the Chula Vista, CA Police Department.

“We are pleased to continue our support of the Vehicle Theft Awards of Merit,” said Windover.  “ELSAG’s Mobile Plate Hunter-900 (MPH-900) automatic license plate recognition system has been an important technology tool that has aided in the recovery of thousands of stolen vehicles across the country, so this is a very appropriate program for us to support.”

The MPH-900 has numerous applications beyond identifying and recovering stolen vehicles.  ELSAG’s technology has aided in keeping drivers with suspended and revoked licenses off the road, a significant application as 46% of drivers involved in fatal crashes who have previous suspensions and/or revocations were driving without a valid license (source: NHTSA).

Windover also presented the Pasco, Florida Sheriff’s Office with an IACP National Law Enforcement Challenge Award.  The Pasco Sheriff’s Office will receive an MPH-900 license plate recognition system to use in their community complimentary of ELSAG North America.

“We believe it is vital to recognize agencies that have worked hard to ensure that our nation’s roadways are safe,” said Windover.  “The officers assigned to do this important work are sometimes overlooked by the citizens they serve, but they are important contributors to the safety of communities across the country.  We look forward to working with the Pasco Sheriff’s Office to bring the MPH-900 to their jurisdiction.”

ELSAG North America’s MPH-900 is currently in use by nearly 500 agencies in 32 states across the U.S.  Its many applications have aided in everything from being used as crucial evidence to convict the murderer of a family in Fishkill, NY to apprehending uninsured vehicles and catching the drivers of vehicles that illegally pass school buses.
